The North Country Underground Railroad Historical Association is raising funds to save a slice of history.
Our goal is to purchase the former property of Quaker Abolitionist and Underground Railroad Conductor Stephen Keese Smith. See flyer for more information.

When John died, his farm was divided for his two surviving sons, Peter and Abram.
Abram's farm was built across the street in 1813.
Like his father, Abram was a farmer but unlike his father, he was also an Abolitionist,
founding member of the Clinton County Anti-Slavery Society and in 1845 he became
the first chaplain at the "Clinton Prison" in Dannemora. Even though baptized in the Ref.
Dutch Church, Abram was ordained a Methodist minister and held church meetings on his farm.
