The North Country Underground Railroad Historical Association is raising funds to save a slice of history.
Our goal is to purchase the former property of Quaker Abolitionist and Underground Railroad Conductor Stephen Keese Smith. See flyer for more information.

My relatives who were living in Manassas, VA, travelled to DC to visit the White House, where they shook hands with Pres.Lincoln. My great-grandmother and her cousin liked the visit so much, they got back in line. When they reached the front of the line, Pres. Lincoln must have recognized them, because he said. "Girls, it's getting late, you'd better find your parents and go along home." The Hardwich family was active there in Virginia as well as in Skaneateles, NY with the underground railroad. My dad, Harold Hardwich, was a classmate and friend of Hank Bryant, great-nephew to Harriet Tubman. I met his daughter, Judy Bryant, this fall in Auburn, NY.
